When W. R. Evans submitted his invention for a "safety device for airplanes" the technology was not there. His parachute was too small for the size of his plane. The right time for an invention is when you can actually make it work.
In 1785 Jean-Pierre Blanchard demonstrated the parachute as a way to of safely disembarking from a hot air balloon. Since that time men have been trying to find more ways to use this life saving device. Now with composites and high strength Kevlar materials Mr. Evans idea has become a reality.
